08 Oct St. Paul’s work session reveals positive news, preliminary costs
The Garden City News September 19, 2019
The Garden City Board of Trustees heard encouraging news from the small army of consultants the village has hired to evaluate and plan for the preservation of the historic St. Paul’s main building. According to one of the consulting engineers, the building’s facade is “in good condition” although there are many interior problem areas, mainly due to water intrusion through the roof and windows.
The Board’s work session on Thursday, September 12, drew as many consultants as village residents, or more. Innovative design and construction firms on hand included Beyer Blinder Belle (BBB), represented by Carlos Cardoso, who delivered the two conceptual plan presentations for “the Centre at St. Paul’s” in July 2018 at the Garden City Casino; Thornton Tomasetti’s Senior Principal Steve Szycher, a civil engineer by training, and Charles “Chuck” Van Winkle as their firm is charged with structural assessment of St. Paul’s, and Walter Beal of CNY Group, the construction manager hired early this year for the initial, “preconstruction” stabilization phase of St. Paul’s.
